xAct is an audio programming engine from Microsoft directx SDK .It is a cross platform generation application.(x-cross platform,A-audio,C-creation,T-tool).
It is The audio library tool for the xbox windows and vista.For the xbox the API used is the Xaudio of same, including X3 audio 3d sound.

These are then used as requested by the appropiate subcommand within a program.
This also includes AIFF and XMA loop up to 16 bit and surround sound.
The output files are .xwb ( for wav groups) and .xsb (for the instruction string)This allows the use of these as standalone in the correct environment from the get go and for thirdparty user interaction for in game audio adjustment to satisfy component specifications .
This gives the user a tailor made setting to match the compenents within an audio systems setup.
The best part is a tailoring effect that gives the user access to all the sound file usage possibilities without the neccesity to instal the application main body.

xACT - Audio compression toolkit
xACT stands for X Audio Compression Toolkit. It is a GUI based front end (written in AppleScript Studio) for the UNIX applications Shorten (3.5.1), shntool (1.2.3), monkey’s audio compressor (3.97) and flac (1.1.2).
xACT also uses a modified md5sum (modified from 2.1 textutils) and sox (12.17.4).. It does the basic commands of these applications and adds a few features to speed up productivity in creation of etree.org standard filesets.
